Tuesdays and Thursdays we take some time to reflect on the previous day’s post with the help of some visual inspiration.
Just because the actions of our unredeemed bodies might at times be “fleshly”, does not mean we are “in the flesh“. According to Romans 8:9, it is the nature of our spirit, not the nature of our actions that determines whether we are ‘in the flesh‘ or ‘in the spirit‘.
However, you are not in the flesh…but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you…
Isn’t it liberating to know that there is only one “if” requirement? There’s only one condition necessary to qualify you as being ‘in the spirit’ and not ‘in the flesh‘, and it was met the moment you accepted Jesus as Lord and the Spirit of God came to dwell in you. It has nothing to do with your actions. It has everything to do with your identity. It is not about your DO, it is about your WHO.
You are not who you are in the flesh. You are who you are in the spirit.
We need to stop identifying ourselves by our actions. Our identity is who we are in the spirit. I had been letting the actions of my body define me, but the truth about me is what God declares to be the truth. As the scripture in today’s visual inspiration says, we need to recognize ourselves (and others) based on who we are in the spirit, not who we are in the flesh.
