Good Friday…aren’t you thankful for what we commemorate this day? I’m forever grateful to God for His sacrifice…for taking the wrath due me on that cross those many years ago.
However, something else happened that day that’s overlooked…that is, if it’s known about at all. For years I didn’t know it had occurred, but once I found out my life changed drastically.
You see, whether we know it or not, Jesus was not the only one crucified that fateful day, and I’m not speaking of the two who hung at His sides. No, that day there were more than just the three. Thankfully, there was you and there was me.
I am crucified with Christ and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me…. Galatians 2:20a
Yes, we were there that day too, dying the same death…a death to sin. Thanks be to God that, together with Him, our old man was also crucified. Why? It was “in order that” we could be not only forgiven but free…free from having to sin!
…knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin. Romans 6:6
It’s something we need to know. It’s something else we need to be thankful for every single day. Let’s begin today on this day of commemoration. Let’s never forget to remember just how good Good Friday really is.
