Difficult as it was to accept, I had to admit there were things that were true about me that were very tough to face. I was having a hard time getting past them….a very hard time. Even though I read that in Christ I was new, to look at my life it didn’t seem to be true. For years I tried to change what was true to what was new, but with no success. Exhausted and depleted from constant struggle, I finally realized… There is something greater than true.
What could be greater?
Truth.
Truth is greater than true.
And what is truth?
Jesus said, “Thy Word is truth”. John 17:17
What His Word says about me is truth.
What His Word says about you is truth.
And truth is greater than true.
The new you is truer than the true you, but as long as we believe and cling to and identify with what is true about us, we will never actually walk in the truth about us.
Interestingly enough, I would come to realize that the truth about me was even harder to accept than what was true about me. I had to settle in to the fact that if it wasn’t what the Word said about me, it wasn’t the truth. It might have been true, but was it truth? I had to realize that sometimes true is a lie, and these were lies I could not afford to believe. By the grace of God, I have determined to believe the truth about me because truth is not only greater than true, as I’ve seen in my life…it has the power to change true. What about you? Are you believing the truth about you?
If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free. John 8:31-32
This was my link up with Lisa Jo Baker’s Five Minute Friday. Today’s prompt: TRUE
“It might have been true, but was it truth?” What an excellent thought to ponder, to wrestle with. I appreciate your perspective on this. Thanks for writing today. I’m your neighbor at FMF this week.
Hi neighbor. Thanks for stopping by. I tried to comment on your post also, but I didn’t meet the criteria you offered in your “Post As..” options. Your writing is excellent and I’ll be stopping by again to read more. Nice to meet you! 🙂
