Tuesdays and Thursdays we take some time to reflect on the previous day’s post with the help of some visual inspiration.
I had been reading, praying and trying to obey for all the wrong reasons. I was doing these things thinking I was going to get something I’d already been given. I was looking at them as a means to attaining righteousness, as though it was about my good works instead of His. However, I had it backwards.
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10 KJV
Notice which comes first. Good works follow our being recreated in Christ. Let’s get first things first. Let’s do what we do with the proper perspective…realizing our works are the fruit, not the root of our righteousness.
You can read or re-read Root or Fruit? that corresponds with today’s image.
My story continues here
I agree with you on the subject that, of reading the word and praying to the Lord, are elements that do not sanctify or make us righteous. But they are necessary to deepen the relationship we have with our Saviour. Reading and praying without being saved is just a religious rituals, with no true spiritual gains in the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ. I would like to state that it is extremely important for a believer to daily engage in the reading of the word and praying to the Lord for spiritual growth. There are deeper depths and higher heights in Christ. There are also different types of faith’s and we know that faith comes by hearing the word of God. When you feel weak the best way to gain strength is through prayers, as clearly seen in the life of Jesus. He prayed ferevntly before “drinking the cup” set before him. Stay belssed.
Couldn’t agree with you more, Martin! With the proper perspective the habit of reading and prayer are gloriously advantageous and absolutely essential for our Christian walk. Sounds like we’re on the same page, for sure!
