No More Debt Mindset

No More Debt Mindset

Many of us have come to realize the glorious reality revealed by the apostle Paul in Romans 6:14 that we are not under law. It is positively liberating to know that we are exempt from the dictates and requirements recorded by Moses in the Old Testament.  And we say we are free.  But how free are we really?

It is true that we need not read and attempt to heed those burdensome ordinances of the Old Testament, but how many of us read the New Testament in just the same way…with the mentality of law? We read the Bible as though it is a bill we owe.

Have you ever gotten something in the mail that for all appearances was a bill?  It looks like one and if you’re not careful you’ll think it’s a notification of a debt you owe.  But if you look more closely you see that somewhere on the notice it says “This is not a bill.

We received one a while ago from our mortgage company regarding property tax, which had already been paid.  It seemed to be a bill, but upon further inspection I noticed these words…

“This is not a bill, it is a record of your assets.

This is the mindset we need to have concerning the Word of God. The New Testament is not to be perceived as a bill you owe.  We need to begin to look at it as a record of our assets.

Maybe if we realized this and changed our mindset we would be more excited about reading the Word of God.  We need to think of it more like a treasure hunt.  Hidden treasure may not be easily spotted and discovered, but it is there nevertheless.  So next time you open the New Testament don’t read it like the Old, like a law….as if it’s a bill you owe.  Give it a further inspection.  Keep your eye open for a record of assets hidden in what appears to be a bill.   You might just discover you’re freer than you think.
